30th ANNUAL AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE CAMP 2011
SATURDAY, JUNE 11th THROUGH WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15th
2011 theme is Native American Music
KCIC is in its 30th year of hosting a five-day residential Culture Camp at the Lee's Summit Rotary Camp. Culture Camp provides an opportunity for all youth (Native and non-Native) ages 5-13 to learn about Native American culture while enjoying the outdoors and having fun with their peers. In addition there are also opportunities for the older youth (ages 15-19) for leadership development with the Counselors in Training (CIT) program. Senior counselors and volunteers from the American Indian community work with the CITs and campers to aid in the understanding and appreciation of Native American culture and values. Campers learn about various Native American songs, dances and stories in addition to swimming, hiking, archery, fellowship, crafts and much more.
Culture Camp is possible through the support of the community. Special thanks to the Rotary Club Youth Camp, American Indian Health Research Education Alliance, All Nations Breath of Life, Johnson County Community College and the volunteer counselors and community members for your support of our program.
KCIC also accepts in-kind and monetary donations to support our program. Donations are used for drinks, snacks, crafts and other supplies. Any donation to our program is accepted with heartfelt gratitude. Without your support, many of our youth would not otherwise have an opportunity to experience camp. Please visit the Ways to Donate tab or contact KCIC for more information.
If you are interested in becoming a counselor, support staff, craft/activity staff, assisting the planning committee or sharing Native American music and instruments with the youth, please email culturecamp@kcindiancenter.org, or complete a counselor application below and return to KCIC. The committee meets the last Monday of the month at 6:30 at KCIC.
Campers, CITs and Counselors must fill out all the following forms and return to KCIC.
Camper application must be completed in full and returned with the $10 camp fee by May 25, 2011 to be eligible for acceptance to Culture Camp.
