The Heart of America Indian Center, one of the oldest continuing Indian centers in the United States, has been addressing the issues Kansas City’s American Indian population since 1974.

The Heart of American Indian Center of Kansas City, Missouri, seeks applicants for an Associate Director to provide support to the Acting Executive Director and serve the will of the Board of Directors. Visit this link for more information and a position description.
Today we are dedicated to the following goals:
- provide health, welfare and cultural services to Native American individuals and families of our community;
- promote fellowship among the American Indian people of all tribes living in the Kansas City Area;
- stimulate the natural integration of the American Indian into the community life of the Indian people;
- encourage artistic and vocational pursuits by American Indian people; and
- preserve and foster traditional American Indian cultural values.
Services Available
Community Services Block Grant: Food Pantry, Holiday Baskets, Back-to-school supply drive, Alcohol and Drug Prevention, and Emergency telephone calls to Reservation or Nation. Referrals to additional Services and Assistance Morningstar Substance Abuse Wellness Program (since 1971): funded by contract with I.H.S. this program provides supported recovery in an outpatient setting for members of federally recognized tribes or nations.
